Canada is at a pivotal moment in regenerative medicine as cell and gene therapies move from discovery into real‑world clinical use. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is among the diseases closest to a curative breakthrough in this space and while Canada funds excellent research, we lack a coordinated way to move discoveries through trials, manufacturing, regulation, and delivery. As a result, trials, talent, and commercialization often leave the country.

The Breakthrough T1D Network for Canada (BTNC) will build national capacity in regenerative medicine by coordinating trials and translation across Canada. For the T1D community, that means earlier access to trials, clearer pathways to new therapies, and a stronger chance that life‑changing treatments reach people in Canada sooner.
