People with type 1 diabetes (T1D) deserve access to the tools they need to stay healthy and prevent serious complications. Insulin pumps are considered a standard of care for type 1 diabetes yet in Ontario, outdated coverage policies continue to create barriers for many individuals and families. People must wait 12 months before becoming eligible for an insulin pump, and provincial funding for pump supplies has not increased since 2006 despite significant increases in costs. As a result, many Ontarians are left paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars out of pocket each year.
